Here is a place for you to tell us about yourself, and what you have been doing since graduating from TJ. It has been sixty years, so we don't expect it to be short. Feel free to tell all. If you wish to provide a link to a video, a Facebook page, etc., we will do our best to make that happen. Send us your write-up via email, and we will add it to the collection. Send to Bill Decker (bill@uncledouble.net) Have at it.

Chris Hassel

It’s been clear to me for most of these sixty years since TJ that the best thing I ever did after high school (or before) was to marry my classmate Sedley Hotchkiss. We had two fine boys, Bryan and Paul, who like us married well and had between them six grandchildren, three boys and three girls. I received my BA from Richmond, my MA from UNC, and my PhD from Emory, all in English literature. After Emory I spent the next thirty five years at Vanderbilt as an English professor teaching and writing about Shakespeare and religion. Since retiring about 14 years ago, Sedley and I have travelled widely, and I have continued my twin passions of flower and veggie gardening and sports, tennis as a player and many other sports as a spectator. Sedley and I also love theater and music, though I stopped choral singing about the time I retired from Vanderbilt. Shakespeare remains my favorite poet and playwright. My volunteer work focuses on this continuing passion for literature. Through our public library’s “Talking Books” program, I have a weekly radio show called “Poetry is in the Air.” I look forward to seeing lots of old friends at reunion.
