Joyce Wolfe Hoffer: We all seem to be approaching 80, and I am not yet finished traveling the world. I was a French major in college and taught in middle schools for 5 years. During my sophomore year, I spent the second semester in Vienna, Austria, with travel-study tours to almost all of Western Europe, plus a weekend in Berlin (BEFORE the wall went up), and time in Spain, Portugal, France and Ireland. I HITCHHIKED with a friend from the South of France to the West Coast of Ireland. When you're 19, you can dare almost anything!! My sister and I went to Australia and Scotland together, each time to visit one of my sons who was working or studying abroad. My husband, who has done medical research for the past 50+ years, has taken me along on many trips to conferences and meetings with his colleagues. We lived in Sweden 3 summers with our sons, and have been back so many times, including a full year Sabbatical, that I now speak the language. I've been with him to Taiwan 4 times, but also to South Korea and India. Several years ago, I went with friends on a private tour of Cuba. Last year I was on a mission trip to the North of Israel, teaching English in a middle school to underprivileged kids. My Bucket List still holds Iceland, and I am actually on a list to go there in August with the local university. Our 3 sons have presented us with 5 granddaughters and one Little Prince. We moved to the Cleveland area to be near them, after 21 years in Denver and 12 years in Annapolis, MD. I still correspond with Miss Estelle Tankard, English Teacher Par Excellence, and try to see her whenever I'm in Virginia, even driving miles out of my way to do that. Minor aches and pains, but Hubby's still working and I'm being Grammy. A BIG HI to all my TJ '57 FRIENDS! |

Martha Lambeth Harris: Loved reading news of our classmates, most of whom I do remember! Ben & I married in 1961, & still are! We’ve been runners, now mostly trotters or walkers but still keep moving daily. He’s a retired attorney. I taught French then did admissions & alumni jobs in the school he & our 2 sons attended. Have been a Master Gardener for several years & play duplicate bridge many days. In 1990 I spent a summer in Bratislava, Slovakia speaking English with students & faculty at the Slovak Technical University. One of the students spent time with us the next year & married a friend’s son! Love reading about our “accomplished” classmates! |
